Communities grapple with floods and infrastructure damage
Floods at Kamuwunga p.s

Rampant rains have unleashed chaos in and around Kampala, leaving communities grappling with floods, road closures, and damage to infrastructure.

The incessant downpour has inundated several neighbourhoods, particularly in low-lying areas.

Areas of Bwaise, Kinawataka and Nateete are some of those that are frequently affected by heavy rains. In these areas, some homes are sometimes deserted during rainy seasons to avoid any danger that may come as a result of heavy rains.

The heavy rainfall has also led to the damage of a major highway, the Kampala Masaka Highway causing massive traffic jams and disrupting transport, Motorists are advised to exercise caution and seek alternative routes where possible.

UNRA and traffic police are working tirelessly to do repairs and restore access to affected areas.

As the rains continue unabated, there are concerns that the situation may worsen in the coming days. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and cautious if necessary.

Meanwhile, efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods and restore normalcy to the affected areas are underway since Kampala Masaka Highway is one of the busiest highways in the country with traffic heading to DRC and Rwanda.
